Nuts About You


Chock full of essential fatty acids, protein, vitamins and fibers, it’s no wonder that nuts are given as gifts during the holiday season! But since it’s also a time you have to watch your waistline and keep it from expanding, perhaps a guide to our favorite nuts, which are higher or lower in fats, would be appreciated. Here is one following the familiar cautionary color chart from a nutritional therapist, Kerry Torrens:

Red (high saturated fat content):

  • Brazil Nuts
  • Macadamias
  • Cashews

Yellow (moderate saturated fat content):

  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
  • Pistachios

Green (low saturated fat content):

  • Hazelnuts
  • Almonds
  • Chestnuts
