Protein-Packed Restaurants

Given the need for protein in our diets and the fact that I am trying hard to build muscle and weight in a healthy manner, I have identified several restaurants that are known for ingredients from sustainable and local sources and healthy combinations of food. Two are my favorites are Bibibop Asian Grill and Chipotle Mexican Grill. Here’s my take on each restaurant and their offerings.

Bibibop Asian Grill is the latest craze in our area for fresh, healthy Asian cuisine. It’s very popular with my high school age group. The menu is presented as being comprised of a “base, a protein, toppings and sauces”. The base consists of a choice of purple or white rice, potatoes, bean sprouts, or beans. Proteins include regular or spicy chicken, steak or organic tofu. Toppings include cucumber, lettuce, carrot corn, daikon (radish), or cheese. Extras are edamame, kimchi (Korean side dish comprised of fermented cabbage and vegetables) and miso soup. Sauces are teriyaki, sriracha, Korean red spice, or yum yum (cream-base). My prized meal is a bowl of white rice, double chicken and steak, lettuce, cheese, and two scoops of teriyaki sauce. This restaurant is my latest and greatest favorite. It’s the bomb as my friends would say!

Chipotle Mexican Grill is known for “food with integrity” in that it buys from local farms that use environment-friendly methods and non-GMO products. The meats come from healthy animals that are allowed to “roam free” and not treated with non-therapeutic hormones and anti-biotics. They offer lean varieties of proteins including chicken, pork, beef, and cheese along with a vegetarian offering of tofu. Couple that with fresh vegetables of white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, grilled fajita veggies, lettuce, corn, salsa, guacamole, and you have a complete balanced meal! My favorite is a huge burrito stuffed with brown rice, double chicken and steak, fajita veggies, lettuce and cheese. Occasionally, I add a side of guacamole and chips. Pure heaven to my taste buds!
