Protein Smoothies

images-3

One of my favorite ways to supplement my diet is with protein smoothies. Often I will have a smoothie after a workout or when I don’t have time to eat between school and going to work. When putting together smoothies, I make sure that I include a base of whey protein powder from a reputable manufacturer. More recently I have used one that is made from grass-fed cows that are free of hormones, pesticides, GMO’s, gluten, and artificial colors, flavors and sweeteners. It also contains other nutrients such as a fruit and vegetable complex, which supplies antioxidants and fiber that supports digestion. For flavor and additional polyphenols, antioxidants and vitamins, I add a handful of blueberries, a banana, strawberries, and other tasty fruit I have on hand plus milk. Here is my favorite recipe below for a large blender:

2 c. 1% milk (could use coconut or almond milk)

1 banana

1 handful of blueberries

1 handful of strawberries, remove stems

1 slice or handful of cantaloupe

2 scoops of vanilla protein powder

Blend all ingredients in a large blender on the puree setting. Next add ice almost to the top of the blender. Cover and blend on ice setting or high setting. Makes about 7 cups. Pour smoothie and enjoy this delicious, healthy drink.

You will have 5-6 extra smoothies leftover, so pour those into microwavable cups and cover with lids. Freeze for later. To eat later, microwave lightly until softened to your preference of liquidity. To good health!
